Editing the preferences is an important step in your online store setup. You can edit the title and meta description of your online store, add tracking codes, or enable a password page.

The Preferences section is where you’ll write the title and meta description for your store. It’s also where you install Google Analytics, a Facebook pixel, and launch your store. Let’s edit your preferences together. From the online store, click “Preferences.” Let’s start with adding the title and meta description.

You’ll want to use relevant text and keywords to be found by search engines. When a customer types different keywords into a search engine to find the product that they’re seeking, the title and meta description is the content they’ll see. After you adding your details, click Save.

Next up, you can set up Google Analytics. Shopify makes this really easy. Google Analytics enables you to track the visitors to your store and generates reports that will help you to market your business. It’s not mandatory, but it’s free and it’s a great tool.

I regularly use the information from Google Analytics to improve our website or come up with content ideas. To set up your Google Analytics, click on “how do I set this up” for step-by-step instructions. You’ll need a Google account in order to setup Google Analytics. If you’re going to advertise on Facebook you can also set up your Facebook pixel here.

A Facebook pixel is a snippet of code that will help you understand incoming traffic as well as your customer behavior. You can use that information to improve your Facebook marketing. You will need a Facebook business page in order to set up your Facebook pixel. Click on “how do I set this up” to get the step by step instructions.

I’ve added a link in the resources section to a beginner and advanced Facebook ads course offered by Shopify, if you want to learn more. Lastly, we have password protection. You can restrict customer access to your online store by enabling a password page.

This is the default currently because you’re still customizing your online store and adding products. If a customer arrives at your site they’ll see that the site is locked and they won’t be able to access anything. Some themes allow you to collect email addresses and start directing social media traffic to different platforms.

It’s a great way to build your audience before your business is ready to launch. You can also give people access to the store to review or make purchases before you launched. If you’re still in a free trial your password page is enabled until you choose a plan. We’re not going to create the password page now though.
