[MUSIC PLAYING] For many roles, especially those more specific or senior, you can't rely solely on applicants to fill the pipeline. That's where sourcing comes in. The best way to find potential candidates is to figure out where people who are passionate and dedicated to their work hang out on the internet. In this lesson, I'll talk about some of the most common sites or tools to use, along with some tips and tricks for searching.

There are many ways to source top talent. And LinkedIn is definitely a tool that comes to mind first and for good reason. Not only are there a lot of people continually using and updating their profiles, it also has a powerful search tool that helps you narrow in on relevant candidates. When beginning to search LinkedIn, start with a broad keyword search and then begin narrowing down your search by adding in more specific terms, such as a job title, location, past or present companies, that kind of thing.

Having an idea of target companies is a great asset when searching LinkedIn. If you're not sure where to start, simply think about companies you admire or have heard great things about. Twitter is an amazing starting resource for finding potential candidates. It won't have a lot of specific information about a person's job, but you can get a sense of what someone's interested in and what they're talking about. And then you can look for more information on them on other sites like LinkedIn.

Search for general hashtags or hashtags from events to find people working on things that align with the role. For example, search #shopifyunite to find tweets relating to Shopify's partner conference. Then you can look at the people who have tweeted about it, engaged with others, or liked tweets related to it. You can hover over their images and get their names and explore more about who they are and what they care about.

Also, look at the industry leaders, other co-workers, and friends. See who they're following for potential leads. You can go in and check out anyone's profile. And literally, the possibilities are endless with Twitter. Keep going down various rabbit holes and just trying out new things. Facebook has millions upon millions upon millions of groups. And these are a great way to find people interested in a certain topic, or to find groups about events, conferences that you can attend to recruit people.

Blogging platforms are another great way to search for people. More of a long-form exploratory journey. But you can really get a sense of how people are thinking about their work. You can see how passionate, dedicated, creative, proactive someone is by reading about how they work or what they're involved with. Search through specific authors, categories, keywords, literally search anything and browse through relevant categories and find interesting authors for articles.

For example, you can search for the term Ruby on Rails. And then this will bring up stories, people, publications that you can look in to find further leads. [MUSIC PLAYING]
