You can add menu items to your online store menus to build your store’s navigation. Menu items link to products, collections, pages (like your About Us and Contact Us page) or blog posts (which you’ll learn about in the next lesson). You have complete flexibility to change your website navigation as you grow.

[MUSIC PLAYING] [? - ?] Now we're going to add a navigation menu to your store. This is an important step in helping potential customers find the information they're looking for in your online store. Every website has a navigation menu. So check out some sites that you really like or that you find really easy to use and take a look at which menu items they've chosen to list. Think about the actions you'd like a customer take and what questions they might have about your products or your brand.

This will help you figure out what the most important categories to include in your navigation menu are. Your online store has to default menus that are displayed on every page. You have the main menu at the top and then the Footer menu at the bottom. I'll show you how to update the main menu for now but the same steps apply to the Footer menu. So from your Shopify admin, click on Online store and then on navigation.

On this page, Click on the title of the menu that you want to edit. So when you click on Main Menu. For Jaswant's Kitchen we have five main menu items-- shop, recipes, about us, stores, and contact. So those are what we find the most important things that customers want to know about us, when they come to our site or when we meet them in person, those are the things that they ask about.

So we've made it really easy by making menu items for those topics. So that customers can find the info they're looking for really easily. You'll notice that your store comes preloaded with two menu items-- you've got home and then catalog. You can edit these and you can also add new items. So I'm going to go ahead and edit the Catalog page to say shop instead because that's what I think customers want to see and basically this links to all of the products that the customer can purchase.

Click on Apply Changes. Then I'm going to add some more menu items and about us page. Here in the linked section this is where I choose what I want that navigation menu to point to. So I actually want it to point a page. So I click on Pages and that's where I choose the About US page that I created previously. And then click on Add.

And you can continue to do that for all of the different navigation menu items that you want. Once you're satisfied with the items in your navigation menu, click on Save menu. [MUSIC PLAYING]
